Venice Jewelry Collection
As you know, Venice is the city where I chose to live, work and bring up my children. My boutique and workshop, which was once my family's jewelry and antiquities shop, is in Piazza San Marco and so, everyday I have the fortune to feel the city's beating heart. From my door, I can see the Basilica and the Doges Palace and witness the beauty of the light, different through the seasons but always magical.
How could I not dedicate part of my work to this inspiring place? Venice runs through my veins and everything about her is like a part of me, the architecture, the water, the spirit. As a local, one of the traditional feasts I look more forward to is the one of Madonna della Salute, which commemorates the peste nera (bubonic plague) of 1630-31 and the vow made by the Doge Nicolò Contarini, who promised that if the Virgin Mary graced Venetians through Her intercession, a church in Her honor would be built. He died before the first stone was laid, but all Venetians celebrate this event by crossing a temporary bridge connecting Santa Maria del Giglio to the Salute and lighting a candle inside the Church.
Families and friends gather to eat a special mutton and cabbage stew called castradina and it is simply wonderful to be together and make meaningful memories. This year, before the event, I was so lucky to go on a gondola from Rialto to the Salute and have my three Venice jewelry collections photographed in such a location. I really wanted to display my jewelry at Salute, because it connects everything.
From there, one can enjoy the view of Piazza San Marco -my home- and Giudecca, where the Redentore Church is. I should also mention -although I am sure you are already well aware of it- that Redentore is another Venetian Feast which we celebrate in July and during which I hop on my boat with my family and head to see the magnificent fireworks.
The jewelry collections I created came, as always, from the heart. There is the Venice Collection which recalls the architecture of the Doges Palace, in yellow gold and red diamonds or blue sapphires. Then there is the Doge Collection, an homage to the most prestigious and difficult figures that contributed to making this city so unique and amazing, whose role was extremely delicate, completely different from the one of privileged dukes, and who always put the wellbeing of Venice before everything else, understanding how delicate the city is and how crucial it is to maintain it safe and protected.
The Lagoon Rings are special wedding rings, which recall the soft movement of the waves of the lagoon and the celebration of the Marriage with the Sea, which takes place in May during the Ascension Day. The bride and groom can contribute to the making of the rings, coming in my boutique and adding and an engraving with their names, the date or a special dedication to their loved one.
To these three, I have recently added the Redentore Collection, composed of pendant and rings with precious stones that recall the liveliness of the fireworks.
Being able to have them all at Salute creates a strong link, between the jewels and their inspiration sources, and between me and the city. The gondolier who took me along the Canal Grande is called Fabio and is a dear family friend and his offer to take me for a ride for my project was really the cherry on the cake, because to me Venice is the city and its people, those like me who have chosen to live here and continue historical traditions, and also I believe that gondoliers are the real Venice guides, with their tales and knowledge. With him, I put into practice the exchange of love between Venice and its waters, handing him the Fedi Laguna.
I hope you will come to my boutique to see and try the jewelry and to meet me. My creations are emotions to wear, all handcrafted and carrying deep meanings. In fact, the exchange I have with the people who come here is invariably moving and it makes me so happy to know that in another part of the world, there is a soul who shares the same love for Venice and literally feel it on their skin.
Thank you so much for reading me. I wish you the happiest Madonna della Salute! You can see a short video of my gondola ride at this link on my Instagram account.
