Homo Faber in Città, Venice 2024
I will never get tired of underlining the importance of manual work and creativity.
Artistic skills not only serve to create beautiful objects that lift our souls, but are also much needed to allow us express ourselves in our own way and -also- to learn more about our deeper feelings and visions, and thus about the entire humanity. Arts and crafts add magic and meaning to the world.
The Michelangelo Foundation, an international non-profit organization that celebrates craftsmanship, has been organizing Homo Faber in the city of Venice since the year 2018 on the island of San Giorgio. We are speaking about a marvelous fair that gathers artists and designers from all over the world, creating connections and opportunities.
During this major event, the foundation has organized the collateral Homo Faber in Città, which puts light on local Venetian craftspeople and gives the possibility to everyone to discover the behind the scenes of traditional and contemporary artistic work. Local artisans open their workshop to anyone curious to learn more.
It is an honor for me to be part of this network and to share with others my work, which is not just a job, but a deep passion and a mission. As you know, I create jewels with the ancient technique of lost wax in my boutique in Piazza San Marco, and my jewelry is emotional. There is no previous drawing, my creations are wearable sculptures and the expression of my feelings. I think that people can perceive this, due to the magic that takes place every time I have a meaningful exchange with other sensitive souls.
The door of my workshop will be open to all of you (you can see the times and dates here) and I shall be delighted to introduce you to my world.
What I am grateful for is also that this event includes artists and designers both known and yet-to-be-discovered. I believe that it is extremely important that as humans and also as creatives we support one another and help those who are young or, anyway, new in this sphere to gain confidence and grow as professionals and as persons.
Manual work has taught me that it is essential to create connections and share, exchange ideas and thoughts. It is a powerful form of art that fosters at the same time individual growth and interaction. Personally, I love to share what I do and as some of you may remember, I even go to public elementary schools to entice children to use their hands and forget about tablets and virtuality for some time, so they can play, create and have an immediate sense of gratification and satisfaction.
When I am with them, I see how their eyes illuminate and how happy they are, how much they enjoy it. They help one another and strengthen friendships. It is the same for us adults, because we all have our inner child and it is a must that we give him voice and allow him space.
So, I feel I ought to thank the Michelangelo Foundation for this fantastic occasion and for helping creatives fulfill their potential.
I look forward to welcoming you to my boutique!
